Wilson's DNA test at BioPet (approx $55) was a disappointment due to the "Unidentified" breed, and imagining Wilson's parent or ancestor as a Dachshund seemed far-fetched though interesting! So, for Carly we decided to try a different DNA testing lab.
For Carly, we chose to try the $119.95 Canine Heritage XL Breed Test, XL meaning they have an extra large list of breeds to match from. As you can see from the certificate, Carly is also part German Shepherd but mostly "Unidentified".To add to the disappointment, Carly's first certificate that arrived was not hers but some other owner's certificate (Golden Retriever) and both DNA labs made us wait almost 2 months for results.
We started wondering as a joke if we should test Lexi to see if she really was a Doberman, because she is too big & tall, her paws are ginormous, her nose the size of a Bloodhound's... : )
But these DNA tests don't authenticate pure breeds, and in any case, she may turn out to be a Coonhound & Unidentified according to these sources!
